Here is Why Skipping Meals is Not the Answer to Your Weight Loss Woes!
Weight loss is all good; it makes you slimmer, offers you a higher self-esteem, and lets you live longer and healthier. However there are a couple of big no-no’s that you must be aware of! Firstly, you should never skip meals and go hungry. Secondly, you should never set unrealistic goals for yourself. Thirdly, you should never sit idle after absorbing all the weight loss information. Here is why skipping meals DOES NOT help: Ok, your nutritionist has just given you a very ‘restrictive’ diet plan. But perhaps you’re thinking to yourself: “Oh, what a diet plan with too many restrictions!’ Why not starve for a few days, so that I can lose weight quickly and eat whatever I like?” Hmm, don’t think I peeped into your brain to gather your thoughts! In fact, this is the line of thinking that most obese adults follow. You may fool yourself into believing that starving is the surefire way of losing weight quickly, but what you may not be aware of is that starving will actually aggravate your condition even further!
Think for a moment that your body is an engine, and the organs in it are the working parts that help the body function the way it wants. Food is the fuel that your body needs to in order to drive itself. Just as your car won’t move unless you supply proper fuel and look after its engine regularly, so too your body will rebel and refuse to work if you don’t look after its well being and keep it starving! Got the point? Now here is how starving can worsen your situation-
When you starve, your body thinks that you are going to kill it. Obviously it will then do everything in its power to reverse the situation. After all, it needs to save itself, right? So it goes right into the ’starvation mode’. While in the starvation mode, your body tends to store fat instead of burning it for energy. As a result, you lose little or no fat through starving, and when you decide that you have staved enough and that you are free to eat whatever you like, that is the time when you will gain back whatever little weight you might have lost, plus some extra pounds as a bonus! This is the reason why fad diets can never work!
Use your commonsense! Can your body really survive on a bowl of cabbage soup or fruit juice? The body which used to consume unlimited number of chocolates, chips, junk foods amounting to thousands of calories - can THAT body survive on such piddly amounts of food? I don’t think so! Yes, you should diet, yes you should restrict your chocolate intake, but that doesn’t mean that you should deprive your body of the basic nutrition!
