How difficult is it to lose weight? To get answer to this question, you need to do some calculations. Most people trying lose weight fail miserably because they don’t do the proper calculations and diligence before joining a weight loss program. Truth to be told, these calculations would help you determine if your body is really suitable for weight loss or not.
1. Get your waist-to-hip ratio: You can do this by measuring your waist-to-hip ratio. To get that stat, just measure your waistline with a tape and then measure your hips. Divide your waist size by that of your hips, and you get an idea of what your waist-to-hip ratio is! If you have more fat in the upper part of your body than the lower part, then you must lose weight not only to become slim but also to be free from harmful diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, etc. However, if you notice that you have more fat in the lower part of your body than the upper part, you can be rest assured that you will have a hard time losing weight.
With that said, weight loss is really simple (but NOT easy), and to lose weight, you simply need to understand the whole concept and then follow some simple steps. First of all, what is weight loss? It is not about losing all the weight so that you look skinny and weak; it is about shedding the extra fat deposits from your body so that you look slimmer and healthier. Don’t ever confuse being ‘fit’ with being ’skinny’; the first one is the indication of health; the second one that of weakness!
2. You cannot lose weight without exercising: We maybe living in the 21st century but some basic rules haven’t changed over the years, no matter what those fad diet pills, supplements and weight loss gadgets promise you! If you want to lose weight permanently, then you need to exercise a lot along with eating healthy and balanced diet.
Aerobic exercises such as walking, jogging, cycling, running, etc., are best for burning fat. If you do them regularly you cannot help but lose weight. Of course you must not get lazy at anytime. As a matter of fact, overweight people tend to burn fat a lot slower than the leaner people, so that is one more reason why you must work harder to lose weight!
3. Don’t try to lose weight too fast: One another thing that you need to keep in mind is that in order to lose weight, you need to change your entire lifestyle. You need to switch from a sedentary, unhealthy lifestyle to an active and healthy one. This is a big change, so you must give your body ample time to adjust itself to the new changes. This is the reason why you must not lose weight too fast; fast weight loss confuses your body by bringing rapid changes, and the end result is that even though you manage to lose some pounds in the beginning, all those ‘lost’ pounds come back to you as soon as you go back to your normal eating habits!
