The Universal Law Behind Weight Loss
Posted on May 7th, 2008 by admin, under diets, tips, weight loss.
Just as there is a law governing the universe, there is also a law governing weight loss! Sounds strange, right? In this article I will tell you about that universal law. Why should you care about universal laws? This is because they are sure to work! They work all the time for all the people and they will definitely work for you too! There are no ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ about universal laws-let me repeat once again: they INDEED work!
1. The universal law and how it affects your weight loss goals: So what are universal laws? Law of gravity is one example of a universal law. You cannot jump up in the air and keep yourself there for hours, because the law of gravity will hurl you down in seconds. Just as you are bound by the law of gravity, so also you are bound by the law of energy and conservation, according to which you can only transform energy into different forms, but you can neither create nor destroy it!
What this means to YOU? Let’s say that the food you eat contains a lot of calories. Calories are nothing but just another form of energy. Once they enter your body, you can do only two things with them: you can either burn them off by indulging in physical activities, or you can store them inside your body in the form of fat deposits. Note that you didn’t create the calories yourself; it was already present in the food you ate, and those same calories were later transformed into fat, another form of energy.
You see, the universal law of energy works!
Now, can you use this law to lose weight? Definitely!
Your body weight is the inevitable result of the amount of energy you consume in the form of calories!
If you consume more calories than you burn off, you will become overweight.
If you consume an equal amount of calories to what you burn, your weight will remain the same.
If you consume fewer calories than what you burn, you will lose weight.
That is all there to it: when you are on a weight loss journey, your focus should only be on the number of calories you are consuming and burning, nothing else!
2. Know your numbers: It is impossible for you to lose weight unless you know about the number of calories you actually need vs. what you are consuming.
First of all, you need to know how much calories your body needs. To determine this number you need to multiply your body weight by 24, and then divide the result by 2.2. As for determining the number of calories you are consuming regularly, that is the easy part! You simply add up the calorie amounts contained in each food you eat, and you will get the total. Now, simply subtract the number of calories you are consuming from the number of calories you need, and you will get the number of calories you’ll need to burn off daily!
Got the point? There is nothing more to it!
Also remember that if you want to lose 1 pound of fat per week, you need to burn off at least 500 calories per day, since 1 pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories. Also remember that you cannot and should not try to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds per week. If you lose more than 2 pounds per week, you will be losing water and lean muscles and nothing more! Eventually, rapid weight loss will damage your health beyond repair!
