A lot of people try to lose weight by starving or crash dieting. There is nothing wrong with starving for the sake of weight loss. In fact, starving can actually help you with fast weight loss. The problem is that such weight loss is only temporary. If you want permanent weight loss, there is no other way than to change your dietary habits. Since your foods had made you overweight, only they can make you underweight.
Diet how many of us have been able to lose weight with the help of a XXX diet? How many of us were able to lose weight with those pre-packaged portion controlled meals? I doubt anyone has been successful with them, because diets and prepackaged foods come heavy with food restrictions. Soon you feel bored with the diet, and unable to bear the constant hunger pangs, you decide that it is time to quit your diet and visit a fast food restaurant to fill up your stomach quick!
Starvation and weight loss go hand-in-hand together. If you starve, you are guaranteed to lose weight. But don’t think that it is a cool weight loss formula. Starving comes with its own disadvantages.
If you fast for too long, you will experience a certain unbearable pain in your kidney. Apparently stones have been formed in your kidney and they are the reasons behind the pain. The real pain will however occur when you try to urinate. I am saving you the gory details of what fasting can cause to you, but believe me, in view of the serious health problems that prolonged fasting can cause, it is simply not worth the risk!
Often people take to fasting because of celebrity endorsements. Beyonce Knowles once claimed on the Oprah Winfrey show that she was able to lose 20 pounds just by starving herself. However, people don’t care to look deeper into the issue: that Beyonce was young (only 25 years old) at the time she lost weight, she had a high rate of metabolism due to her young age, plus she was rich enough to hire professional nutritionists and fitness trainers to look after her health. However, did you know that after sometime, she gained back all the weight she had lost? Hmm, now you maybe are wondering “How could that happen?”
Well, that is the bad thing about fasting: any weight lost through fasting isn’t permanent weight loss. As soon as you quit fasting and return to your normal diet, you gain back all the weight you’ve lost, plus some more. You gain the ‘extra’ pounds because your body is paranoid that you may fast again, and that is why it needs to keep some extra fat reserves in order to save itself from future starvation!
Fasting is okay if you do it only for a couple of days. Anything beyond that is dangerous! As for diets, any diet that is devoid of proper nutrition is not a healthy diet for you!
